Litter Be Gone!

“NO SPRING FLING” is coming – You’re all invited!

Earth Day – April 22nd – May 13th, 2023 (See the list of events at the end of this post.)

The Town of East Hampton Litter Committee’s Dr. Christine Ganitsch presented a month-long project entitled “No Fling Spring” to the Trustees at our meeting of March 27th. Created to inspire and motivate residents to “ACTION”, the public is invited to engage in several planned events throughout the month all with a focus on keeping our coastal communities free of debris.

“Changing behavior is the toughest part,” said Dr. Ganitsch. The primary goal of the event-filled month is to create public awareness of how debris impacts our environment. With the help of local businesses, environmental groups, and concerned residents, she and the litter committee feel it is a matter of education that will bring about a positive change in behavior.

The project will commence on April 22nd, Earth Day, with a Springs-Fireplace Road clean-up – the committee is inviting volunteers to join in.

On the evening of May 13th, get your dancing shoes ready as the Litter Action Committee will hold the “No Fling Spring Fling” dance party- a fundraiser for the Springs Presbyterian Church. Time: 6PM – 9PM

On May 6th, members of the East Hampton Middle School’s Surfrider Club will join their teacher and Trustee, David Cataletto, and Trustee Susan McGraw-Keber at Lazy Point in Napeague to clean up the beach and surrounding areas. We will meet at the boat ramp.

On May 13, the Trustees will join the East Hampton High School members of the Environmental Awareness Club with Aubrey Peterson, the head of the group and a social worker at the high school at Atlantic Beach in Amagansett. We will meet at the end of the road by the “Beach Hut.”

Both events are open to the public! We hope to see you there!

*We will have a volunteer waiver for all participants to sign as required by the Town. (Children under the age of 18 may have a Guardian or parent sign.)
