Spring is sprouting! Just days away, it’s a great time to plan for gardens and healthy landscapes in our town. With one aquifer to provide our drinking water, we need to turn our attention to how to rethink what we put on and in the ground! From ChangEHampton! ChangeHampton is launching a new project which aims to bring 1,000 healthy yards to the East End of Long Island.  Inspired by a sister project in Bellport, Long Island, ChangeHampton inaugurated this new initiative with a launch party at the Playhouse in East Hampton, on May 13, 2023. Why is it important to avoid fertilizers? Many reasons include human health and the preservation of our bees, birds, insects, and human health. The NRDC’s article explains-

In a holiday gift to the state’s bees, birds, and people just before the end of the year, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the Birds and Bees Protection Act (A.7640-Glick/S.1856A-Hoylman-Sigal)—a first-in-the-nation law to rein in dangerous and wasteful uses of neonicotinoids or “neonics.”
