Legislature Approves East Hampton Town Trustees Term Changes

The New York State Legislature has approved a request from the East Hampton Town Trustees to extend their elected terms in office from two years to four, allowing the board to stagger elections so that all nine Town Trustees are not running at the same time.

The State Assembly and State Senate both voted overwhelmingly on June 8 in favor of allowing the centuries-old board to adjust its election guidelines. The bills will still have to be signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo by the end of the year for the new rules to take effect.
