Kayak Storage Permit Application Instructions & Regulations for 2021

The Town of East Hampton Trustsees’ office will NOT accept incomplete applications.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please include all of the following as part of your complete Kayak Storage Application:

  1. Application: Please print clearly, complete all sections and submit all required documentation as listed on this page. Documentation must be in the same name as the applicant.
  2. Application Fee: $200.00.  Make checks payable to: East Hampton Town Trustees
  3. A Copy of Current Driver’s License
  4. Proof of Residency – This may include any of the following:
    1. A property tax receipt for the current tax year for any taxable property located within the boundaries of the Town of East Hampton.
    2. Driver’s License with a Town of East Hampton Street address.
    3. A current lease of property within the Town of East Hampton, the term of which shall be a minimum of one year.
    4. Voter registration as registered in the Town of East Hampton
  5. Color Photograph of Vessel – Preferably a side view. 
Kayak Rules & Regulations:

Please read both sides carefully prior to completing your application.  You may reach out to the Trustee office with any questions or concerns.

  1. Kayaks may only be placed on racks at the location for which you are granted a spot from the lottery. Permit holders may not move their kayak between rack locations.
  2. All kayaks must be must weigh 75 lbs. or less.
  3. Only KAYAKS are permitted to be stored on the Trustee Kayak racks.
  4. Kayaks are to be stored upside down and secured to the rack with a locked strap.  It is recommended the kayaks be further tied down with bungee cords.
  5. Kayaks are required to have the owners name and contact information written on the boat, either on a U.S. Coast Guard applied sticker or clearly visible inside the cockpit, in either case applied with indelible marker. 
  6. No kayak may be left on the ground, beach or in the grasses surrounding the kayak racks. They are only permitted to be stored ON the racks.
  7. Single and Tandem kayaks are permissible insofar as they meet the allowable specifications listed above.
  8. Upon approval by the Trustees you will receive a copy of the permit application (which serves as your receipt) and a PERMIT Sticker.  The sticker must be placed on the front quarter panel of the kayak with the front end facing/nearest the water. The sticker must be visible on the end of the boat nearest the water to allow for inspections. 
  9. Kayaks are permitted to be on the storage racks from April 15th and must be removed by no later than November 15th.
  10. The Trustees and Harbormaster may perform random inspections.  Any violation of Trustee instructions and regulations may result in loss of a kayak permit and the forfeiture of all fees.
