The East Hampton Town Trustees Scholarship was awarded to graduating senior, Skye Tanzmann on June 1st, 2023. The nine member Trustee board was delighted to present Ms. Tanzmann with a $1,500 scholarship fund to assist with her college tuition as she enters Harvard University this coming Fall.
Skye was an intern at the East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery during last summer and presented to the Trustees her plan to construct an oyster reef in Accabonac Harbor. She obtained the necessary Town and Trustee permits, and submitted the necessary paperwork to the state. Skye subsequently procured two additional permits for other sites.

From Skye’s teacher, Dr. Paul Rabito, a few comments from his three-page letter of character recommendation:
“Skye has proven to be an outstanding young scientist through her participation in the three-year long Advanced Methods In Science Research course at East Hampton High School. She possesses a commanding ability to construct her own superior level of mastery by working through the most complex of topics. During her time as my student, Skye has demonstrated her ability as an exquisitely critical thinker and a highly self-motivated learner. In the quenching of her thirst for knowledge and extreme devotion to the pursuit of independent research, Skye will have earned twelve credits a 4.0 level at the State University of New York at Albany by the time she graduates. I know Skye’s ambition is unparalleled and that she will graciously rise to any challenge when granted the opportunities only afirst-rate university can offer. She will undoubtedly be a stellar addition to your student body. Skye is the limit!”
From Robert Tymann, EdD – South Fork Sea Farmers – Education Chairperson:
“I have had the good fortune of working with Skye for the past 12 months on an oyster habitat restoration project. As a board member of the South Fork Sea Farmers and the point person for the oyster reef project, I first met Skye as a potential candidate for the internship at the Town Shellfish Hatchery. In the written application, she wrote: “I strive for what I like to call “flexible” perfectionism, which I define as trying to be my best, but accepting the potential mistakes as learning opportunities rather than defeats.” Not only was I impressed with the maturity of her statement, but it also proved to be an accurate description of her work ethic. I am continually impressed with her precision, focus on detail, and passion for learning.”
The East Hampton Town Trustees are proud of all the senior members of East Hampton High School and congratulate them as they go on to their next adventures and learning experiences!
To Skye Tanzmann – We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and dedication to her studies – we know she will continue to excel in all that she endeavors to explore, research, and learn! Congratulations, Skye!!!
