Blue Green Algae Bloom Advisory; June 9th, 2017

Please be advised! The East Hampton Town Trustees wish to inform the greater East Hampton community that Georgica Pond has tested positive for elevated levels of Blue Green Algae.

Effective Immediately, avoid all contact with Georgica Ponds waters. There should be no swimming, fishing or other potentially high contact activities on the pond at this time.

Anyone who has contact with Georgica Pond waters should rinse with clean fresh water immediately. 

We are grateful for the water testing being conducted  By Dr. Gobler of Stony Brook University on this important environmental matter.

Please report any observations algae blooms or other environmental events to the East Hampton Town Trustees at 631/267-8688.

The culvert passing under Gerard Dr into the north end of Accabonac harbor has been cleared of silt and sediment.

The East Hampton Trustees had the inlet of Accabonac harbor dredged from Louse Point using a long-arm excavator from Bistrian, the town’s preferred contractor of 2017. The sand was moved down and spread on public land to nourish the beach to the southeast.

The East Hampton Town Trustees are holding our annual Largest Clam Contest on Sunday, October 2nd, starting at 12 noon, at our Bluff Rd. office, 267 Bluff Rd. Amagansett. 
 
You’re invited! The event is free to public and includes free raw clam bar and clam chowder.
 
Dig your largest clam from an East Hampton harbor and bring it to one of four local seafood shops: Gosman’s in Montauk, The Seafood Shop in Wainscott, or Amagansett Seafood or Stuarts in Amagansett.
 
There is an adult and child winner for each of our four major harbors. All entries are kept alive and happy as a clam before they are returned to their home waters.
 
Clam chowders will also be judged, red or white, with a prize for the big winner. Music by Job Potter and Steven Tekulsky, East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery presentation by John “Barley” Dunne, and East Hampton Classic Boat Society.
 
Bring the family and learn about the heritage and livelihood of East End waters!
